The smartphone is currently available only in China, but will not be released globally. This is because it is already available internationally, but under the name Motorola Edge 50 Neo. Basically, the new Motorola Moto S50 is a rebranding of the existing Motorola Edge 50 Neo.

So, the two smartphones also look the same, which is not a bad thing as the design is quite nice. The Motorola Moto S50 also comes with premium hardware on the inside, including 5G connectivity. Motorola hopes that the inclusion of 5G and its other premium features will be enough to attract new customers. The side frame is flat, but the edges where the side frame and the back panel meet are curved, which provides a better feel in the hand. The back panel is made of leather, which is another reason why the phone feels so good in the hand.

Sadly, the side frame is made of plastic, but that’s acceptable since it’s a mid-range phone. Overall, it’s a decent design and won’t disappoint many people. The Motorola Moto S50 is available in Nautical Blue, Latte, and Poinciana colors. As for the display, it sports a 6.36-inch LTPO P-OLED display with support for a high refresh rate of 120Hz.

This panel has a 1.5K resolution, HDR10+, and up to 1 billion colors, so it will offer a decent viewing experience and watching videos and movies will be a pleasure. The display can also reach a brightness of up to 3000 nits, which will be more than enough to use the phone outdoors in direct sunlight. The phone will be protected from dust and water as it has an IP68 rating.

This is a decent chipset considering the price of the smartphone, and its 4×2.5Ghz clock speed will keep everyday apps, such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and more, running smoothly.

Even the gaming performance is quite powerful considering the price of the phone. It has the Mali-G615 MC2 GPU, which can comfortably run games like PUBG mobile, CODm, Black Desert Mobile, Summoners War, and even Genshin Impact relatively smoothly. You can also play games for longer hours without any overheating issues.

The smartphone also supports 5G connectivity, so you will get fast download speeds and low latency during online gaming. Apart from that, the Motorola Moto S50 can be purchased with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB to 512GB of fast UFS internal storage. Camera

The Motorola Moto S50 comes with a 50MP triple rear camera system. The 50MP main camera can capture fantastic images with decent levels of detail, a high dynamic range, and a natural-looking color tone. We were honestly surprised by the image quality of this camera and it should easily outperform other phones in the same price range.

However, the colour range could have been a bit better. Users who prefer saturated colour tones will be a bit disappointed. Motorola has opted for a natural-looking colour science with this phone. The secondary camera consists of a 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, which is just as good as the main camera, but with a wide 123˚ field of view. However, there is a slight colour shift between the main camera and this ultra-wide-angle camera.

The final camera consists of a 10MP telephoto sensor, which is pretty impressive and takes photos with 3x optical zoom. Photos from all three rear cameras are pretty good and the same can be said during nighttime. However, don’t expect it to be on the same level as the Pixel phones. On the front of the Motorola Moto S50, there is a 32MP selfie camera. This sensor is capable of taking some decent selfies with a good amount of detail, decent white balance performance, and natural-looking skin tone.

As for video recording, the Motorola Moto S50 can record videos at up to 4K resolution at 30 FPS with both the rear camera and the selfie camera. It also has OIS and gyro-EIS video stabilization for the rear cameras, allowing for smoother footage, but the same cannot be said for selfies.

Battery and others

The Motorola Moto S50 has a 4310mAh battery. This high-capacity battery can last for 1-2 days with light to moderate usage including the camera, social media, watching videos, etc. However, the battery will drain faster and won’t even last a full day if you play a lot of games, but you will be glad to know that the smartphone supports 68W wired fast charging.

The 68W charger will be included in the box and it can fully charge the battery in around 40 minutes. There is also 15W wireless charging support, which will take around 3 hours to fully charge the smartphone. Apart from that, the phone also has an under-display fingerprint scanner, tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase starting at $310 (Rs 25,999 in India) approximately.
