Design and display
The design of the Huawei Pura 70 Pro and Huawei Pura 70 Pro Plus looks quite premium. They have the same curved edges, curved sides, and the same back panel design. However, the Huawei Pura 70 Pro Plus has an advantage over its younger brother. It comes in a vegan leather variant that looks and feels premium. The Pura 70 Pro is only available with a glass back panel.
In terms of design, the new phones look absolutely fantastic and feel premium too, thanks to the aluminum frame and glass and leather combination. In general, they are very well built and well designed smartphones. As for the display, both the smartphones have the same 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with 120Hz high refresh rate support for a smooth user experience.
The display panel has a 1.5K resolution with up to 1 billion colors, providing an excellent viewing experience. The display panels can also reach a brightness of up to 2500 nits in direct sunlight, so there shouldn’t be any problems in outdoor situations. The screen of the Huawei Pura 70 Pro is protected by Kunlun Glass 2, while Kunlun Glass protects the screen of the Huawei Pura 70 Pro Plus. Therefore, they must be well protected from scratches. Both smartphones are also well protected against dust and water thanks to the IP68 certification.
Memory and internal
Both the Huawei Pura 70 Pro and Huawei Pura 70 Pro Plus are powered by Huawei’s own chipset called Kirin 9010 and can offer clock speeds of 1×2.3 GHz. The chipset is quite powerful and has more than enough performance to run all your favorite apps and games without problems. However, compared to the chipsets of other flagship phones, the Kirin 9010 offers tough competition to other smartphone chipsets.
Additionally, both smartphones support 5G connectivity for gigabit-level speeds and low-latency gaming. Speaking of gaming, the GPU inside the chipset had enough power to run all your favorite games such as PUBG Mobile, Summoners War, and CODm with relatively smooth frame rates. For RAM and storage, the Huawei Pura 70 Pro can be purchased with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB to 1TB of internal storage.
On the other hand, the Huawei Pura 70 Pro Plus can be purchased with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB/1TB of internal storage. When it comes to the software side, both smartphones come preloaded with HarmonyOS 4.2 in China. But the Huawei Pura 70 Pro has EMUI 14.2 in the international market and offers expanded customization support.
Camera
Both the Huawei Pura 70 Pro and 70 Pro Plus smartphones feature the same 50MP triple camera setup. The 50MP main rear camera takes multiple snapshots and then combines them into one perfect shot. This allows images to have higher levels of detail, high dynamic range and natural color tone.
The second camera is the 48MP telephoto camera, which takes incredible 3.5x zoom photos. The last camera is the 12.5 MP Ultra Wide Angle Camera, which manages to take great photos with equally impressive details as the main camera, but there might be a comparatively little shift in colors in some images.
Both smartphones also support night mode and manage to capture more photos and produce brighter shots than normal. The night photos look pretty good. On the front, both Huawei Pura 70 Pro and 70 Pro Plus have the same 13MP selfie camera, which managed to capture some fine details on the subject’s face with a natural skin tone. When it comes to video recording, the rear camera can record videos at a maximum of 4K@30FPS. They also support OIS and gyro-EIS for better stabilization.
Battery and others
Both the Huawei Pura 70 Pro and 70 Pro Plus smartphones have the same long-lasting 5050 mAh battery. Smartphone batteries should last 1 to 2 days with light to medium use. But with heavy use and gaming, the battery will drain faster and the two smartphones may not last a full day.
As for charging, both Huawei Pura 70 Pro and 70 Pro Plus support 100W wired fast charging with 80W wireless fast charging. The 100W wired charger should fully charge the smartphones in about 30 minutes, while that the 80W wireless charger should fully charge smartphones in about 45 minutes. Additionally, the phones have 20W reverse wireless charging and 18W reverse wired charging.
Apart from that, both smartphones have Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, an under-display fingerprint scanner, GPS, NFC, stereo speakers, BDS satellite messaging, and USB-C for charging. Conclusion
Both the Huawei Pura 70 Pro and 70 Pro Plus are excellent smartphones and will offer a premium experience to anyone who picks up the phone. Everything from the screen to the camera to the battery is absolutely phenomenal and will easily compete with any other smartphone in the same price range.
However, the two new smartphones hide a dark secret in the form of chipsets. While the chipset name may indicate flagship-level performance, it is actually not true. Huawei is prohibited from using Qualcomm chipsets or other chipsets, thanks to US sanctions. So, they had to create their own chipset, but it is not at the same level as other flagship smartphones.
If performance is not the priority and you don’t mind paying the premium price, then you can buy either smartphone. However, if you care about performance, we recommend the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro series of smartphones. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
