Motorola Edge 50 Fusion

Motorola Moto G85 Smartphone Review: Motorola phones offer solid offerings across the board with their newly developed devices. Not long ago, we reviewed the Moto Razr 50 series phones, which seemed quite amazing at first impression, while the Moto G50 Fusion was also quite attractive. Now, we are reviewing the Motorola Moto G85 device, which offers improved overall features and specifications. This new G series phone faces tough competition in the mid-range segment.

The company has launched different phones with interesting prices, from foldable to mid-range. It looks like they are expanding their presence this year. But on the other hand, the Moto G85 would redefine the way you use the phone in your daily use. Additionally, the phone can easily be associated with more premium devices as it offers an aesthetic design and beautiful build. Having said that, let’s find the highlights of the Motorola Moto G85 smartphone:

Highlights

  1. The Moto G85 arrives with a 6.67-inch P-OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and support for higher brightness nits.
  2. As for the software interface, Android 14 arrives with two major updates and a couple of years of security patches.
  3. Coming to the performance department, you can rely on the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset.
  4. A decent 50MP dual camera with a 32MP selfie camera will appear on this phone.
  5. Under the hood, the phone offers a 5000mAh battery with 30W wired charging support.

Design and display

It’s rare to find a curved screen on a budget phone like the Motorola Moto G85. You won’t notice any bevels at the corners or on the top or chin. Additionally, the company features an extremely lightweight vegan leather construction, which is available in olive green, cobalt blue, and magenta. While the Ubran Gray color variant appears with a built-in standard glass body.

However, there is no denying that the design aspect is somewhat subjective. But the Moto G85 looks pretty good with a premium fabric-like design, which was exclusive to the Edge series until last year. It is now possible to find a beautiful design with a comfortable holding experience. Weight-wise, the phone measures around 171-173 grams despite offering a larger battery setup.

The iconic camera module provides a unique look with a curved top. Volume controls are present on the right side with the power button while the SIM port is available at the bottom. In terms of protection, the 6.67-inch P-OLED display offers Corning Glass 5 protection. The brightness level reaches up to 1600 nits, while the 120Hz refresh rate ensures a smooth frame rate experience. Lastly, the on-screen biometric scanner is accurate and unlocks your device without any hassle.

Memory and internal

Coming to the performance department, the Motorola Moto G85 arrives with the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset. But it is a rebranded version of the Snapdragon 695 chip without much difference in processing speed. Still, the overall performance is not that bad as the device can reach an AnTuTu score of up to 900K with ease, which is almost 100K from the previous chipset model.

Thanks to this, the phone perfectly excels in performance, while the hiding speed of 2×2.3 GHz is sufficient for normal use. However, you won’t receive a full gaming experience with this phone. In addition to this, the device comes with the latest version of Android 14 with two years of major updates and four years of security patches. In addition to this, the device can be purchased with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, accompanied by 128 GB to 256 GB storage.

With built-in storage and RAM, users will have no problems. As far as real-world performance is concerned, the device can support lag-free gaming. We played games like BGMI, Call of Duty, Genshin Impact, and more games, which caused slight overheating during our usage. However, the phone arrives with fewer pre-installed apps. Still, the software interface can provide a cleaner UI experience with plenty of customization options.

Camera

On the surface, the Motorola Moto G85 houses a dual camera setup, which includes a 50MP primary and an 8MP secondary ultra-wide-angle lens (OIS). In recent years, the image quality of Motorola phones has evolved, delivering attractive photos with vibrant colors and accurate contrast colors. The phone offers slightly over-processed photos, which might not be the best option for social media.

Hopefully, the main lens provides optical image stabilization that captures precise details, while the ultra-wide-angle lens is also capable of providing macro photography. In daylight photos, colors are saturated and appear slightly dull. Aside from the portraits, the images are not too bad as you will notice sharp details on the subject. However, the brightness level is slightly lower at the edge. The 32MP selfie camera precludes producing accurate saturation.

You can capture natural beauty with this phone, but the skin tones are not as accurate. Although they are not overprocessed. Low-light photography on affordable smartphones is often overlooked. But the dedicated Night Mode will improve colors in low-light environments with sharper details and visibly less noise. The device offers a feature-rich camera setup with multiple camera modes, allowing users to capture their memories accurately. However, video recording can only reach 1080p resolution, which is one of the main disadvantages of this phone.

Battery and others

Under the hood, the Motorola Moto G85 smartphone arrives with a 5000 mAh battery configuration, which is a mediocre battery. Overall, the device can support long battery life while the phone can provide up to 5+ hours of screen time with moderate usage. Regarding content consumption, you will be able to watch 4K content for more than 8 hours. The Indian variant will offer a 33W wired charger inside the box, while the international variant offers 30W wired charging support.

With wired charging support, the phone can be recharged from 0 to 100% in one hour. In fact, the phone was no slouch when it came to charging speed. Last but not least, the Motorola Moto G85 is positioned in the mid-range segment with a starting price of $270 (Rs 22,690 in India) approximately. You can purchase a higher version depending on your storage and RAM requirements.

Conclusion

Lastly, the Motorola G85 can be considered a solid choice if you prefer the design, display, and beautiful camera results. Apart from this, content consumption is also decent with FHD+ resolution. However, the phone will struggle to support HDR content in the streaming app. Additionally, some of the competitors are not lacking in raw performance.

However, the device could be a good option for gamers due to the average GPU and visuals. Still, it’s much better than most mid-range phones. The promise of combining stylish features and affordability makes this device a great deal. But on the other hand, if you want higher performance, the Nothing CMF Phone 1 would be a great option. Anyway, choose your smartphone according to your wishes!
