HMD Global clears Nokia Mobile

As part of a strategic change, HMD Global, the Finnish company responsible for Nokia-branded phones, has officially removed the mobile phone section from the Nokia website. The once iconic “nokia.com/phones” link now redirects users to the new official HMD Global website, “hmd.com”.

This decision means the complete withdrawal of Nokia mobile phones from the market. HMD Global is set to unveil its own-brand smartphones and feature phones in the first half of this year, featuring a new look and image. Notably, the flagship model TA-1585, a tablet HMD T21 and several low-end models are among the products planned for release. These devices will feature HMD’s logo and design style, marking a break from the traditional use of Nokia’s branding and logo.

In an interview, Kunwar explained that HMD Global will continue its partnership with Nokia, leveraging Nokia’s technology and patents in communications to improve the quality of its products. This strategic collaboration aims to offer consumers cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions.

Industry insiders view HMD Global’s decision to rebrand and move away from Nokia’s heritage as a wise and necessary step. Nokia mobile phones, once dominant players in the market, have lost their former glory. HMD Global recognizes that clinging to the Nokia brand may only evoke consumer disappointment and regret without attracting new users. To thrive in the competitive landscape, HMD Global frees itself from Nokia’s constraints, seeking to establish its characteristics and advantages.

HMD Global aims to primarily target the markets of India and the Asian region with these new products, while also making them available in regions such as Europe and the United States. Ravi Kunwar, Vice President, HMD Global, highlighted the company’s broader vision, saying it aspires to create a comprehensive product ecosystem encompassing smartphones, tablets, feature phones, IoT devices and more again, complemented by premium services and experiences.

As HMD Global transforms its approach, industry experts expect the company to create a distinct identity, driving innovation and competing effectively in the ever-changing mobile market. The move reflects HMD Global’s commitment to adapting to changing consumer preferences and staying ahead in the dynamic world of mobile technology.
