Samsung Galaxy C55

Samsung Galaxy C55 Smartphone Review: The Samsung Galaxy C55 was announced in April 2024 in China. The C in the name of the smartphone means that it is exclusive to China. However, recent leaks suggest that it will be launched in India under the name Galaxy F55 and may also be launched globally under different names. The Galaxy C55 is itself a rebrand of the Galaxy M55 but with a new finish.

The smartphone features a vegan leather design that looks quite stylish. It seems that Samsung wants to impress its users in China. The smartphone also includes modern 5G connectivity. However, there are equally excellent smartphone companies in this market, so Samsung has to up its game. Let’s start with a detailed review of the Samsung Galaxy C55 and see if this smartphone is worth buying.

Reflexes

  1. The Samsung Galaxy C55 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ display with a high refresh rate of 120Hz.
  2. The chipset included in the smartphone is the octa-core Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 5G SoC that is capable of clocking speeds of 1×2.4 GHz.
  3. The smartphone arrives with Android 14 with OneUI 6.1 for more customization options.
  4. The Samsung Galaxy C55 has a 50MP triple rear camera system with a 50MP selfie camera.
  5. The phone has a 5000 mAh battery and supports 45W fast wired charging.

Design and display

The Samsung Galaxy C55 features a great design that not only looks impressive but also feels good. However, the side and middle frame are made of polycarbonate, but it is strong and has little to no flex. Additionally, the side frame is curved, which feels solid in the hand and shouldn’t slip out of your hands. Overall, it’s a great design and looks majestic, especially in the orange color with gold accents. The smartphone is also available in a plain black color option.

On the front of the smartphone there is a 6.7-inch display. The screen has a Super AMOLED+ panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It has an FHD+ resolution and its brightness can reach 1000 nits in sunlight, so using the smartphone outdoors will not be a problem. However, there is no screen protection or water resistance, at least not officially. So it is best not to take a dip in the pool with this smartphone.

Memory and internal

Samsung provided the Samsung Galaxy C55 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 5G chipset that can reach clock speeds of up to 1×2.4 GHz. This is a pretty powerful 7-series chipset, so it should easily run all of its daily applications without problems. We were expecting something like the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 or 3 chipset considering the price, but that’s not what we got.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is still a more than decent chipset. The CPU performance side should also scale similarly to the gaming side. The chipset has the Adreno 644 GPU, which is more than decent. You should be able to run games like PUBGm, CODm, Summoners War, and even Genshin Impact with decent graphics quality and frame rates.

The smartphone runs on Android 14 out of the box with OneUI 6.1 and is scheduled to receive 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates. The smartphone also supports 5G connectivity for low-latency gaming experience and high-speed downloads. In terms of memory and storage, the Samsung Galaxy C55 is available for purchase with up to 8GB to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There is also a microSDXC slot for memory expansion, which is a plus for this smartphone.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy C55 has a 50MP triple rear camera setup. The main rear camera has a 50MP sensor with OIS and this sensor manages to capture great details, natural color tones and high dynamic range. The quality of these images could be on par with other smartphones in the same price range. Details are adequately preserved without altering the exposure of the scene.

The second camera is an 8MP ultra-wide camera and takes somewhat average photos. Details are not at the same level as the main camera and images have an overall softer look. As for the front selfie camera, you get a 50MP sensor which is quite capable. This sensor can capture great selfies with even skin tones.

As for video recording, the smartphone can record up to 4K@30FPS from the main rear camera as well as the selfie camera. Additionally, the main rear camera has OIS and gyro-EIS, so videos should have stable images.

Battery and others

The new Samsung Galaxy C55 has a 5000 mAh battery that should provide 1 to 2 days of battery life with medium to light use, including some camera, social media, browsing, and texting. But, if you play a lot of games or edit videos, the battery will drain much faster and the smartphone may not last a full day.

However, Samsung has equipped the smartphone with a 45W wired fast charging capability. Therefore, it has the ability to fully charge the smartphone in about an hour. Apart from that, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, an under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The smartphone is available for $287 (Rs 23,990 in India) approximately.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy C55 was launched exclusively in China, a market dominated by local Chinese smartphone manufacturers that offer much better specifications than this one. This smartphone doesn’t stand a chance against them, definitely not with the specs it has and the price it’s aiming for. This is because compared to other phones, the Galaxy C55 has a 2-year-old chipset.

The chipset isn’t bad, but it’s just that other chipsets have much better specs. Additionally, Samsung promised four years of operating system updates and five years of security updates. Samsung did a great job with this compromise and it will certainly increase the longevity of the smartphone. Overall, it is a good smartphone and its components such as the display, memory, sound, camera and even the fingerprint sensor are quite decent.

Considering the not so good performance, the price is not justified. However, if you don’t care about performance and like the other aspects of the smartphone, then you can go for it. The best alternative to this smartphone would be the Samsung Galaxy M55, which offers much better performance and asks for around the same price. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
