Motorola Moto G55

Motorola Moto G55 Smartphone Review – The Motorola Moto G55 was launched in August 2024 in Europe and started shipping on the same day. Considering Motorola’s smartphone launches in the past, this smartphone should launch globally sometime in the next few months. However, the smartphone may launch under a different name in the US.

The design of the new smartphone is similar to other Motorola phones released in 2024. It comes with a fairly powerful chipset and many innovative technologies, including 5G connectivity, to appeal to gamers. Let’s start with a detailed review of the Motorola Moto G55 smartphone and see if it is worth buying.

  3. The new smartphone comes with Android 14 with a stock user interface for a better experience.
  4. The Motorola Moto G55 has a 50MP dual rear camera system with a 16MP selfie camera.
  5. The Motorola Moto G55 is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery with 30W wired fast charging.

Design and exhibition

The Motorola Moto G55 features a beautiful design that will impress many people. The combination of a flat design with eco-leather on the back gives this phone a really good look. The use of leather gives it a very premium feel, but the side frame is made of plastic, which was done to keep its price down.

The smartphone is available in Forest Grey, Smoky Green, and Twilight Purple colors. The Motorola Moto G55 is protected against water splashes, but there is no official IP rating, so you should refrain from jumping into the pool with this phone in your pocket. As for the display, the phone sports a 6.49-inch IPS display with support for a high refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The display has an FHD+ resolution and is decently backlit, so the viewing experience will be pretty decent. The screen can also reach a considerable brightness, which will provide a good experience when using the smartphone outdoors. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Memory and internal

The Motorola Moto G55 is powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 7025 5G chipset, which can reach clock speeds of up to 2×2.5 GHz. This is a pretty powerful chipset in the mid-range category and can run most of the apps and games smoothly. Talking about gaming, it can run most of the games with smooth frame rates, including Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile, Summoners War, Black Desert Mobile, and CODm with decently smooth frame rates.

But don’t choose the maximum settings in graphics-intensive games like Genshin Impact. This game will struggle to run on this chipset at high graphics settings, which can result in lag and stuttering. The chipset also supports 5G connectivity, which will offer significantly lower latency in multiplayer games and gigabit download speeds.

As for the operating system, the Motorola Moto G55 runs on Android 14 with a stock UI for a better experience. As for RAM and storage, the smartphone can be purchased with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB to 256GB of internal storage. The internal storage can be further expanded via the microSDXC slot. You will also find a 3.5mm headphone jack, something that is incredibly rare these days.

Camera

The Motorola Moto G55 features a 50MP dual rear camera system. The main camera consists of a 50MP sensor with OIS and can take amazing photos with great levels of detail, high dynamic range, and a natural color tone. Motorola smartphones usually don’t have great cameras in this price range, but that’s not the case here.

It is a decent camera that is on par with other smartphones in the same price range. However, the same cannot be said about the secondary 8MP ultra-wide camera. The image coming out of this camera is average at best and is far from the quality of the main camera. It doesn’t even have the OIS capability of the main camera, which could have helped in night photography. This is why the night images coming out of the main camera are far superior to those of the secondary camera.

As for the selfie camera, there’s a 16MP sensor, which can take great selfies with a natural facial tone and good levels of detail. As for video recording, the Motorola Moto G55 can record at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 60 FPS from the rear camera and 1080p at 30 FPS from the selfie camera. Any footage from the main rear camera will be stabilised due to OIS, but not for the ultra-wide or selfie cameras.

Battery and others

The Motorola Moto G55 has a 5000mAh Li-Po battery, which can provide up to 1 to 3 days of battery life with light to moderate usage. However, the battery will drain faster if you play a lot of games and may not last a full day. The charger supports the 30W wired fast charger, which can fully charge the smartphone in about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Apart from that, the Motorola Moto G55 also has dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The Motorola Moto G55 starts at $285 (Rs 23,990 in India) approximately.

Conclusion

Motorola has managed to deliver on its promise of delivering a decent Motorola Moto G55 smartphone that will appeal to gamers. Thanks to its excellent chipset, most games run smoothly and even graphically demanding apps perform decently. It also has an excellent design with premium leather materials.

The display and camera performance are also equally impressive. On top of all that, you get a fantastic battery that charges pretty quickly. You also get 5G connectivity for when you need the best internet speeds. The list of perks just keeps growing. If the price was more competitive, it would have been a fantastic option in the budget mid-range category.

However, its price brings it closer to the Nothing Phone (2a), which has an even better design, display, processor and camera. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
