Blackview BV8100 Smartphone Review – The Blackview BV1800 is a new rugged phone in the market that offers interesting features at a pretty solid price. Smartphone makers launched this phone globally so that fans can start buying it. But over the years, we understood one thing – rugged smartphones are a growing market. However, they have not become mainstream and many people prefer to buy rugged phones. However, they often do not appeal to regular users due to their low-end specifications and configurations.
But, even so, there are only a handful of brands like Blackview that can offer a combination of value and advanced specifications. Usually, if you choose a Blackview phone, you don’t have to worry about damage control as the device will be fully equipped with a variety of protective materials. However, the phones are a bit heavier than your average phone. But is the Blackview BV8100 smartphone worth buying in 2024? Let’s find out!

- The performance aspect is handled via the mediocre Helio G99 chipset with Mali-G57 MC2 graphics.
- The BV8100 will feature a decent 50MP dual camera setup with a 32MP selfie lens.
- Under the hood, the device will pack an 8800mAh battery with a 45W wired charging setup.
Design and exhibition
The Blackview BV series phone offers a rugged build with a combination of high-quality materials, drop-resistant coating, and the necessary IP68/IP69K certification. Despite having an armored phone appearance, the Black BV8100 is available in three different colors, including black, green, and orange. However, you won’t notice any drastic color changes on the back panel except for the X-shaped branding.
Along with this, the phone features a circular camera module, which at a glance looks normal, but if you look closely, you will notice the Arcsoft logo. With this new technology in hand, the image quality of photos and videos will be further improved on the device. The metallic texture of the side panel gives a tactical feel when pressing the power or volume keys. Having a large capacity battery is a major disadvantage as the phone will weigh approximately 360 grams, although it is not as bad as other armored smartphones.
Apart from this, there is also a dedicated flashlight mounted on the top, while there is a biometric scanner on the side panel. As far as the front display is concerned, you are getting a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel, which can play FHD content with ease. The visual experience is not too bad either, especially while using social media. The touch response is further improved by the 120Hz refresh rate. But, the brightness is quite low compared to an average mainstream branded phone.
Memory and internal
Blackview has already expanded into the foldable smartphone segment and is also not far behind in launching its camera-centric phones. However, that doesn’t mean that you can always rely on the hardware. With the Blackview BV8100 phone, the user will get the Helio G99 chipset, which can produce a cloaking speed of up to 2×2.2GHz. You will receive the same clock speed as the Snapdragon 695 chip with 5G connectivity. But, the Helio G99 is limited to a 4G connection.
Thankfully, you won’t notice many issues while using the internet. As far as the software side of things goes, the device houses a near-stock Android experience with the regular Google ecosystem app on Android 14. The user can easily customize the interface as per their needs. At the same time, tons of customization features can be enabled via the settings menu. Fine-tune the overall layout with preferred widgets and apps.
Apart from this, the device can handle gaming to some extent. But don’t forget to get a top-notch gaming experience. The user can enjoy the gaming session without any lag. In addition to this, it stores as much as apps and other media with 256GB UFS 2.1, which will be accompanied by an 8GB RAM configuration. Also, it is possible to expand the storage with the shared SIM slot.
Camera
There is no hope for the camera results if you are using Blackview phones. In general, smartphone manufacturers did not show much interest in attractive camera software. With this, users can expect decent results from the Blackview BV8100’s native camera app.
Apart from this, the device brings a 50MP main sensor with no support for optical image stabilization. Instead, the main sensor offers phase detection autofocus, while daylight photos don’t look too bad. Either way, the image looks vibrant with accurate color and contrast settings. On the other hand, low-light photos look disappointing with noise and background.
Typically, the Blackview BV8100 also features a 13MP ultra-wide lens that offers an impressive dynamic range. Moreover, you can rely on the 32MP selfie camera to capture stunning details in every shot. Moreover, video recording can reach up to 1440p resolution with the main sensor. However, 1080p video recording can be achieved with the selfie lens.
Battery and others
Under the hood, the Blackview BV8100 is powered by an 8800mAh battery, which can produce up to 10 hours of screen-on time. Typically, the device can stay active for more than half a week. Still, the phone can be recharged in two and a half hours via the 45W wired charging stand. After playing games for an hour, browsing social media for two hours, or watching a full-length 2-hour movie, even then, you will be left with 15% battery left at the end of the day.
On the other hand, the phone features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and other important sensors. However, the audio output falls short when you try to listen to music and other activities. Anyway, let’s talk about the price. The Blackview BV8100 is priced at $195 (Rs 16,290 in India) approximately. At this price, the device doesn’t feel disappointing and seems like a value-for-money offering.

Conclusion
At first glance, the Blackview BV8100 phone looks mediocre if you are looking for a unique design. But the strong point of the phone lies in its armored body, sturdy build, beautiful camera results, and many other features. However, when you start looking at the disadvantages, you will understand that this phone is lacking in several departments. Mainly, the performance and display section is something that it lacks the most.
However, users will not face any issues during daily usage. However, the hardware is not designed to support high-end gaming and performance. But, if you are looking for a better option, then you should consider checking out the Oukitel WP35. It has versatile features to attract mid-range smartphone buyers. But still, consider all the factors and your requirements before choosing any phone.
