In recent years, the mobile phone market has undergone a transformation with the appearance of phones with folding screens. In the Chinese market, several manufacturers have entered the foldable screen phone market, contributing to its growth. However, in the global market, Samsung has dominated with its innovative foldable devices. Despite this, Google recently made its foray into the foldable screen phone market with the launch of the Pixel Fold.

Although Google’s Pixel Fold entered the market early, it faced challenges due to its design, configuration, and price. The first-generation Pixel Fold lacked standout features and lagged behind its competitors, particularly Samsung. However, recent leaks and rumors about the Pixel Fold 2 suggest major changes and updates.

According to the high-definition CAD renders provided by OnLeaks, the Pixel Fold 2 features a 7.9-inch internal display and dimensions of 155.2 × 150.2 × 5.27 mm when unfolded. This configuration represents a slight departure from its predecessor, with a more square design and an enlarged screen.

At the top of the device, an antenna band accompanies an auxiliary speaker grill, while on the right side are the power and volume buttons. Meanwhile, the bottom section houses a USB-C port, speaker grill, microphone, and SIM card slot. Notably, the phone’s internal display includes a camera located in the top right corner, which is rumored to use an under-display camera solution with a novel sensor.

When folded, the Pixel Fold 2 has a 6.4-inch external display and measures 155.2 × 77.1 × 10.54 mm, which is a slight reduction in thickness compared to the 12.1 mm profile of his predecessor.

Rumors suggest that the Pixel Fold 2 will feature the next-generation Tensor G4 chip, offering improved performance with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and at least 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. This update is expected to improve the overall performance of the device and user experience.

However, it’s important to note that the Pixel Fold 2 is still in the early stages of engineering verification testing (EVT), with changes possible before mass production. The release schedule may be delayed, possibly debuting in the second half of the year.

The introduction of foldable screen phones represents a significant change in mobile technology, offering users innovative features and improved usability. While challenges remain, manufacturers like Google are continually evolving their offerings to meet consumer demands and remain competitive in the market. With promising updates and advancements on the horizon, the future of foldable screen phones looks bright and will shape the next era of mobile innovation.
