Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT is official with Dazzling Spatial Design and Vivid Color Concepts!
Today represents a pivotal milestone for Huawei and its worldwide community of fans as the company officially introduces HarmonyOS NEXT “Galaxy Edition” at the Harmony Ecology Conference. The developer preview is currently accepting applications, with the commercial release slated for Q4 2024.
Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT features
HarmonyOS NEXT by Huawei, referred to as HarmonyOS Galaxy Edition in China, brings forth various design concepts like “Spatial,” “Vivid Color,” and “Immersive.” The user interface undergoes significant transformations, introducing a floating effect between components for an enhanced three-dimensional experience. Improved color distinctions in built-in applications contribute to streamlined usability.
The updated UI showcases significant enhancements, prioritizing native refinement, application performance, smooth operation, security, intelligence, and seamless interconnection. HarmonyOS NEXT adopts the self-developed Harmony kernel, featuring a groundbreaking “heterogeneous native” parallel mechanism that triples memory management efficiency. This holistic approach aims to deliver the ultimate user experience.
During the announcement, Yu Chengdong emphasized that the HarmonyOS kernel surpasses traditional kernels by seamlessly adapting to various device scenarios. Developed comprehensively, the HarmonyOS system spans from programming language to compiler, eliminating the need for the Linux kernel or AOSP.
HarmonyOS NEXT Native Applications
Currently, more than 200 native applications for HarmonyOS are in development, encompassing a broad spectrum of commonly used apps. Over half of China’s Top-200 mobile apps have initiated HarmonyOS native application development. The HarmonyOS developer community is experiencing rapid growth, with over 10,000 new registrations daily.
Major industries, including social, audio and video, games, finance, and food, have embraced the HarmonyOS ecosystem, with key players like Alipay, Jingdong, Xiaohongshu, and Meituan participating. Huawei encourages developers through the HarmonyOS NEXT Developer Preview website, providing comprehensive hardware and software full-stack online services, including detailed app qualification audits, a development whitepaper, development kits, tutorials, and more.
HarmonyOS NEXT is official now
Huawei’s HarmonyOS NEXT unlocks vertical domain innovation capabilities for partners, offering the tripartite SDK HarmonyOS for efficient full-link development tools. With an ecosystem encompassing over 800 million Huawei devices (700 million as of August 2023), the company aims to lead the industry across various scenarios, creating a new frontier in the trillion-dollar market.
Huawei announced the “Galaxy Plan,” committing over 7 billion RMB to incentivize HarmonyOS native applications, meta-services, SDKs, and other ecological innovations. This initiative aims to rapidly build a stronger and richer ecosystem.
HarmonyOS NEXT Operating System Base
The operating system base of HarmonyOS includes the Pangu AI model, MindSpore AI Framework, DevEco Studio/DevEco Testing integrated development environment, HarmonyOS Design design system, ArkUI/ArkUI-X programming framework, Ark Compiler/Bisheng Compiler/Ark Runtime compiler & runtime, ArkTS/Cangjie programming language, and EROFS/HMDFS distributed file system for file management.
As per the current plan, Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT Galaxy Edition is set to release the developer Beta version in the second quarter and launch the official commercial version in the fourth quarter.
