Huawei Nova Flip Smartphone Review

Huawei Nova Flip

Huawei Nova Flip Smartphone Review – The Huawei Nova Flip was launched in August 2024 in China. Huawei phones have been banned in the international market, but since this phone was launched as part of the Nova sub-brand, there is a chance that this foldable phone could be launched globally. After all, Huawei launched the Nova 12 series globally earlier this year, so we expect this phone to be launched internationally as well. However, the company has not mentioned anything officially.

In terms of design, the Huawei Nova Flip resembles the Xiaomi Mix Flip, which was also launched in a similar time period. Unlike Xiaomi’s foldable phone, the Huawei Nova Flip is designed for a budget price point but has support for 5G connectivity, among other features. Let’s start with a detailed review of the Huawei Nova Flip smartphone to see what else it offers and whether it’s worth buying.

  2. The foldable smartphone has an octa-core 5G chipset.
  3. The new foldable smartphone comes with HarmonyOS 4.2 operating system.
  4. The Huawei Nova Flip has a 50MP dual rear camera system while it has a 32MP selfie camera system on the front.
  5. The Huawei Nova Flip is equipped with a 4400 mAh battery with 66W wired fast charging.

Design and exhibition

The Huawei Nova Flip looks a lot like the Xiaomi Mix Flip foldable phone, but with a smaller display. Even though this phone is designed with a relatively budget-friendly price tag, it still has a premium build quality. The side frame is made of stainless steel, while the back panel is made of glass. In terms of design, the foldable phone has a flat body with rounded corners. Overall, it is a fantastic phone both in terms of design and build quality.

The folding hinge is also well-built and the folding mechanism is smooth, which will certainly improve the daily user experience of the Huawei Nova Flip. This foldable phone also weighs less than 200 grams, making it significantly lighter. In addition, there are two displays on the smartphone, the main one and the cover one.

The main display sports a 6.94-inch foldable LTPO OLED display with support for a high refresh rate of 120Hz. On the other hand, the cover display consists of a 2.14-inch LTPO OLED panel and a 120Hz refresh rate. This cover display can display vital information such as the time, missed calls, messages, and other notifications. Both displays have decent color accuracy, and viewing content on the screen will be a pleasure. The two displays can also get decently bright under direct sunlight. The Huawei Nova Flip is available for purchase in Green, Pink, White, and Black colors.

Memory and internal

The Huawei Nova Flip features an octa-core 5G chipset, which should have enough raw performance to run all modern apps and games without any issues. It should also be able to run most games decently, including Summoners War, PUBG Mobile, and CODm with high graphical fidelity.

As for RAM, it is unknown how much RAM the smartphone will have, but as for storage, it will be available for purchase with up to 256GB to 1TB of storage. As for software, the Huawei Nova Flip runs on HarmonyOS 4.2, which is Huawei’s version of Android. However, the software might be different on the global model. This foldable phone also supports 5G connectivity, so you will be able to enjoy gigabit-level download speeds and low latency in multiplayer games.

Camera

The Huawei Nova Flip features a 50MP dual rear camera system. The 50MP main rear camera captures fantastic images with high levels of detail, high dynamic range, and natural colors. The image quality was pretty good, but it didn’t exceed our expectations. Don’t get us wrong, the images are fantastic, but the shots from other foldable phones are of slightly better quality.

The secondary camera has an 8MP ultra-wide camera, which is not as good as the main camera, but not that bad either. It is certainly above average and the level of detail is pretty decent. The only issues with this camera are the slight shift in colors compared to the main camera and a bit of distortion at the edges, something that is also present on other smartphones.

As for the selfie camera, it has a 32MP sensor that can take great selfies with perfect skin tones. The overall color tone of these selfies is natural and they have higher levels of detail. As for video recording, the Huawei Nova Flip can record at a maximum of 4K from both the rear camera and the selfie camera. The main rear camera has OIS support, which will stabilize any video footage coming from this camera, but there is no OIS or gyro-EIS for the selfie camera.

Battery and others

The Huawei Nova Flip has a high-capacity 4400mAh Li-Polymer battery, so you can expect a battery life of around 1-2 days with light to moderate usage including some light photography, social media, texting, and more. However, if you play games a lot, the battery will drain faster and last less than a full day.

As for charging, this smartphone also supports the 66W wired fast charger, which should fully charge the smartphone in about an hour. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C port for charging. HUAWEI announced that the phone will be priced at $714 (Rs 59,999 in India) approximately.

Conclusion

The Huawei Nova Flip is an excellent foldable smartphone. Even though it is designed for a relatively budget-friendly price point, it still has all the basic features done right to provide a great foldable user experience. The phone has all the right specs and features, be it in the display, performance, 5G connectivity, camera, or battery department.

There are other foldable phones in the market with better specifications than the Huawei Nova Flip, but they also cost a lot more. If someone wants the best foldable phone, they can go for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, if you want a foldable phone on a decent budget, you can’t go wrong with this one. Considering the specifications and features that this smartphone offers, its price tag is certainly justified.

The only alternative we can think of is the Honor Magic V Flip, which is similarly priced but has slightly better hardware inside. However, the final decision is up to you, so it’s best to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
