Lava Yuva smartphone review

Lava Yuva

Lava Yuva Smartphone Review: Lava announced its new budget 5G smartphone called Lava Yuva 5G in March 2024 and it finally went on sale in June 2024. Since Lava is an Indian brand, the smartphone will be available exclusively in India and not at a global level. Although this is a budget smartphone, it still has 5G connectivity and a decent chipset to offer near gigabit speeds.

In terms of design, it looks similar to other Lava smartphones, so Lava fans will probably like this design. With 5G connectivity, Lava hopes to bring new competition to the budget segment with this smartphone. Let’s review the Lava Yuva 5G and see if it has what it takes to compete with other smartphones in the same category and provide a great user experience. Let’s start.

Lava Yuva smartphone review

Reflexes

  1. The Lava Yuva 5G has a 6.53-inch HD+ IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate.
  2. The Lava Yuva 5G has a Unisoc T750 5G SoC that is capable of clock speeds of 2.0 GHz.
  3. The smartphone comes with an Android 13 operating system with a stock Android UI.
  4. The Lava Yuva 5G has a 50MP dual camera system with an 8MP selfie camera on the front.
  5. The smartphone is powered by a 5000 mAh Li-Po battery with an 18W fast wired charger.

Design and display

The design is one area where you won’t see much difference on the Lava Yuva 5G compared to other Lava smartphones. Almost all Lava smartphones look the same. Basically, you get what you pay for, which is solid build quality from start to finish. It has a flat design all over and is made of plastic. The Lava Yuva 5G is available in two colors, Green and Blue.

On the front, you will find the display of the Lava Yuva 5G, which is a 6.53-inch IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The higher 90Hz refresh rate allows the smartphone to have smoother animations and offer a much smoother user interface, which is generally not the case with budget smartphones in this price range. However, the screen has an HD+ resolution and not FHD+, so not everyone will be happy with that.

Memory and internal

The Lava Yuva 5G features the Unisoc T750 5G SoC that is capable of clocking speeds of 2×2.0 GHz. This is not a high-performance chipset, but due to decent clock speeds, it can run applications like Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and more with decent performance. In addition, it is a 5G chipset that is usually reserved for higher-priced smartphones.

Since it has 5G, you’ll get excellent download speeds and lower latency in games. Speaking of gaming, the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU of this SoC has more than enough power to run your favorite games like PUBG Mobile or CODm with smooth frame rates and without overheating. The smartphone may get hot, but it is far from overheating. In terms of RAM and storage, the smartphone is available for purchase with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage. It should have had the 6GB RAM option, which would have been better for gaming. 6 GB of RAM is needed for a smartphone in 2024.

As far as the software is concerned, the smartphone runs on Android 13 with a stock UI for a seamless user experience. However, the presence of Android 13 is not acceptable in 2024. There is no excuse not to offer the latest Android 14, even in this price range. However, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack that will cover all your audio needs.

Camera

The Lava Yuva 5G has a 50MP dual camera system on the rear. The 50MP sensor is the main rear camera, which is optimized by Lava and takes above-average photos. These images tend to have natural colors and decent details compared to other smartphones in the same price range.

However, they are nothing out of the ordinary, but the quality is good enough to post on social media. The other rear camera is a 2MP macro, which is just for show and doesn’t do anything useful. On the front you’ll find an 8MP sensor for the selfie camera, which manages to capture somewhat decent selfies that are good enough to post on social media.

These selfies look pretty sharp unless you start zooming in on the images. As for video recording, the phone can only record at a maximum of 1080p@30FPS from the rear and selfie cameras.

Battery and others

The Lava Yuva 5G has a non-removable high-capacity 5000 mAh Li-Po battery, which is great considering the price you pay. It can easily last 2-3 days, especially with lighter use. But if you play a lot of games, it will last less. But the phone supports 18W wired fast charging, so there is nothing to worry about.

This fast charger should fully charge the smartphone in about 2 hours or so. The fast charger also comes in the box and will not need to be purchased separately. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, FM radio, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase for $113 (Rs 9,499 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Lava Yuva 5G is a surprisingly excellent smartphone launch. Lava wanted to bring tough competition in the budget segment with this smartphone and it succeeded. It has a decent display with a high refresh rate to deliver smooth visuals. The chipset is also quite decent and can play your favorite games like PUBG. It also has an excellent battery that can last for days or provide hours of gameplay during a long gaming session.

The camera is also good and can take some photos good enough to post on social media. But the best part of the smartphone is the support for 5G connectivity, which changes the game completely. This smartphone was launched in a price range where many smartphone makers skip 5G for cost-cutting measures, but that’s not Lava.

All these things make this smartphone an instant recommendation and the price is certainly justified. However, since this smartphone is not available globally, we have something for global fans as well. The Xiaomi Poco M6 is the best alternative that offers almost all the features of the Lava Yuva 5G and more for around the same price. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
