Design and exhibition
As for the appearance, the Motorola Razr 50 looks beautiful at first glance. But just like the Razr 50 Ultra, the camera module is noticeable on the cover display. However, the 3.6-inch external display will provide stable usage. Moreover, users can choose this fabulous foldable phone in three colors. Depending on the country, the name of the color variant might vary. Anyway, you can choose this phone in gray, sand, and orange colors.
All color models offer eco-leather bodies, which gives the phone a premium look. At the same time, the company used a plastic panel for the outer display, which is more prone to damage. On the other hand, the cover display has Gorilla Victus protection. Along with this, the device also equips IPX8 water resistance, which is quite good for everyday use. Like most foldable smartphones, the biometric scanner is located on the side panel, which is conveniently placed in the middle.
We tested the hinge for durability and it seems sturdy, while the crease is a bit noticeable when you try to bend the phone. However, you won’t notice a thing when using the 6.9-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display. It includes the usual 120Hz refresh rate setup, HDR10+ control, and up to 3000 nits (peak) of brightness. All of those factors will improve the viewing experience for users, while you won’t have any issues using the phone in daylight.
Memory and internal
Under the hood, the Motorola Razr 50 doesn’t just offer the standard Android 14 setup. You can use the cover display for its always-on features, take stunning selfies with previews, and even explore other customization attributes. Moreover, the software also offers high-end custom features with the native Android skin.
There are a couple of Motorola service apps and a handful of system apps pre-installed. But overall, the UI experience is clean. You won’t notice any bloatware, while the performance aspect is adequately handled via the Dimensity 7300X chipset. With this hardware configuration, the device can handle multitasking, gaming, and other activities. However, the phone might not be the right choice for hardcore gaming.
The reason lies in the mid-range Mali-G615 MC2 GPU and mediocre processing speed. Still, gameplay won’t be a hindrance for users as the software is optimized to support most Android games and apps. Heating issues are barely noticeable, still, it would be great if you started using the protective case. Anyway, you can choose between 256GB to 512GB UFS 2.2 space, which will feature 8GB to 12GB RAM without any additional storage support.
Camera
The Motorola Razr 50 offers almost the same photography and video results as the Moto Edge 50 series phones. For your information, the device features a dual camera setup with a 50MP primary lens and a 13MP ultra-wide lens. This duo can produce dynamic range colors, enhance photos with HDR, and adjust colors based on the background. The native camera app offers a wide range of filters and AI features, which can be used whenever you want.
Daylight images are quite appealing, with natural and vibrant colours, while skin tone is evenly matched. On top of this, you can remove background elements from your images and even create an AI version of yourself. At the same time, low-light photos don’t look as dull. You can capture nightlight photos with less noise, thanks to the improved camera software. In terms of video recording, the main camera setup can record up to 4K video resolution at 30fps.
However, video recording may prove disappointing for many users. But still, the saving grace would be the EIS gyroscope support, which reduces stabilization issues. On the other hand, the front display incorporates a 32MP selfie lens, which provides identical camera benefits. Color saturation, contrast, and hue can be managed via the Pro settings, while there are various camera modes to explore. Meanwhile, video recording results are similar to the main camera setup, except for video stabilization support.
Battery and others
During normal usage, the battery drains minimally. But to be precise, the device can only provide up to three to four hours of screen-on time, unless you’re constantly playing high-end mobile games. The Motorola Razr 50 equips a 4200mAh battery, which can handle most of your daily activities with ease. However, using both screens simultaneously will drain the battery faster. Thankfully, the phone supports up to 30W wired charging, which usually takes less than an hour to recharge the battery.
Just like others, you will also get the 15W wireless charging support on this phone. As far as the sound output is concerned, the audio is crisp and loud for calls and gaming while other sensors are not that bad either. Motorola Razr 50 is a relevantly affordable foldable smartphone as compared to the other brands. You can buy the starting variant at $1090 (Rs 91,990 in India) approximately, which is about the high price of any flagship foldable phone. Overall, the phone can be considered a cost-effective option in the foldable smartphone segment.

Conclusion
This is not the first time that Motorola has produced a foldable phone. They produced some decent phones a couple of decades ago and even now they are following the same legacy. The Motorola Razr 50 is undoubtedly a great choice if you want a budget foldable phone. It can be considered one of the best foldable phones of 2024. The phone didn’t have that many drawbacks except the slow performing hardware. If you want higher performance, the Razr 50 Ultra would be a better choice.
Apart from this, Oppo and Vivo will also bring their flagship foldable phones later this year. But for now, if you are looking for a decent foldable smartphone, you should consider buying the Motorola Razr 50. However, the device does not have many alternative options. But still, users can choose phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 phones in the meantime. It is a complete package with higher performance and better integration of Google AI technology. Lastly, the final decision is in your hands, so make a decent choice according to your needs.
