Samsung aims to make Galaxy Ring the key to tempting iPhone users to switch

VP Pak sets ambitious goal to attract iPhone users with the appeal and functionality of the Galaxy Ring

At Mobile World Congress 2024, Samsung wowed the crowd with its latest innovation: the Galaxy Ring smart ring. Designed with elegant concave contours reminiscent of a miniature car wheel, the Galaxy Ring promises to revolutionize wearable technology by offering a compact yet powerful device that can measure a user’s biological data.

Equipped with sensors to track blood oxygen saturation and sleep conditions, the Galaxy Ring boasts an impressive battery life ranging from five to nine days. Available in various sizes and battery capacities, ranging from 14.5 mAh to 21.5 mAh, this lightweight device weighs between 2.3 and 2.9 grams, ensuring comfort and convenience for the user.

However, what sets the Galaxy Ring apart is its compatibility (or rather, lack of compatibility) with Apple’s iPhone. Samsung’s MX boss Lu Taiwen made it clear during the MWC 2024 General Assembly that the Galaxy Ring will initially only be compatible with Galaxy series mobile phones, with plans to expand compatibility to other Android devices in the future. Notably absent from the compatibility list are Apple iPhones.

Hon Pak, vice president and head of Samsung’s digital health team, expressed a bold vision for the Galaxy Ring, hoping to entice iPhone users to switch to Galaxy phones. “We want our ring to be of such a caliber that users will want to trade in their phones for it,” Pak said in an interview.

As anticipation builds for its launch later this year, the Galaxy Ring signals Samsung’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of wearable technology and capturing the attention of Android users around the world. With its cutting-edge features and sleek design, the Galaxy Ring is poised to make a lasting impact in the smart accessories space.
