  3. The smartphone arrives with Android 14 with OneUI 6.1 for more customization options.
  4. The Samsung Galaxy A55 has a 50MP triple rear camera system with a 32MP selfie camera.

Design and display

The design of the Samsung Galaxy A55 is as premium as the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. It has a similar metal and glass sandwich design and the smartphone feels great in the hand. The side frame is flat, except for the button area on the right, which is slightly raised for easy access. The smartphone provides a solid grip and does not slip easily.

The texture of the smartphone also feels much more premium. The smartphone is protected against dust and water with IP67 certification. As for the display, you get a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display. This display panel has FHD+ resolution, a high refresh rate of 120Hz, and a brightness of 1000 nits that helps deliver a superior user experience.

The display panel is also color accurate, so viewing content won’t be a problem. The screen brightness can reach 1000 nits in sunlight, so it will be a pleasure to use the smartphone outdoors. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. The Samsung Galaxy A55 is available for purchase in Iceblue, Lilac, Navy, and Lemon color options.

Memory and internal

The Samsung Galaxy A55 is equipped with the Exynos 1480 5G chipset. This new chipset from Samsung is quite powerful and easily reaches clock speeds of up to 4×2.75 GHz, making it capable of running any of your daily applications without any problems in real-life use. The system works smoothly and even the animations feel smoother than any other smartphone in the same price range.

This performance also carries over to the gaming side. The Xclipse 530 GPU has the raw power to run games like PUBGm, CODm, Summoners War, and even Genshin Impact with higher graphical fidelity. In terms of memory and storage, the Samsung Galaxy A55 is available for purchase with up to 8GB to 12GB of RAM and 128GB to 256GB of internal storage. There is also a microSDXC slot for memory expansion.

The smartphone runs on Android 14 with OneUI 6.1 out of the box. Samsung also offers 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates, which will improve the software experience in the long run. The smartphone also supports 5G connectivity for lower latency and even better gaming experience. You can also download movies in a matter of seconds.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy A55 has a 50MP triple camera setup. The 50MP main sensor has been optimized to capture more light than usual. Therefore, images and videos captured with this sensor have amazing details, saturated colors, and high dynamic range. The same goes for the 12MP ultra-wide camera, which also manages to capture some incredible shots without much distortion at the edges.

The details coming from the ultra-wide sensor are amazing and the dynamic range is perfect too. There is very little deviation in colors when comparing photos from the two sensors, which is not easy to achieve. So, kudos to Samsung for this. Then there’s the 5MP macro sensor which also takes some decent macro photos and you can manually focus on a certain element of the image for even better detail.

On the front, there is a selfie camera with a 32MP sensor. This sensor can capture great selfies with even skin tones. When it comes to video recording, the smartphone can record up to 4K at 30 FPS from both the main rear camera and the selfie camera. Additionally, the rear cameras have OIS and gyro-EIS, allowing for stable video recording. Shooting action scenes with this camera is an absolute delight.

Battery and others

The Samsung Galaxy A55 has a high-capacity 5000 mAh Li-Ion battery that can easily last for about 2 days with lighter use. But, when you play games for a long period or take a lot of photos, the battery will drain quickly. In that case, the smartphone may not last a full day. However, the smartphone supports 25W wired fast charging.

It can fully charge the smartphone in about 2 hours. Apart from that, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, an under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The smartphone is available for $410 (Rs 38,599 in India) approximately. The smartphone will not be available in the US.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy A55 is a decent mid-range smartphone on its own. It has a great screen, a decent chipset, and an excellent camera setup. Battery performance is also pretty decent. However, this price is highly competitive and other smartphones at the same price offer much better internal features and hardware.

The Samsung device surpasses this smartphone in all aspects of the smartphone. It is none other than the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. It’s available, but it will cost a little more, but it offers a significantly better chipset, camera, battery, and even display. On top of that, the Galaxy S23 FE offers wireless charging and a telephoto lens and both are missing from the Galaxy A55.

This is why Samsung refused to launch the Galaxy A55 in the US market because it would be DOA. While the Galaxy A55 is a decent smartphone on its own merits, its value deteriorates significantly in this highly competitive price segment. It is the best alternative to this smartphone and offers much better value. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
