Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Smartphone Review: The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 was announced in July 2024 and then went on sale the same month. The new Flip phone is the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and brings some minor improvements to further enhance the foldable experience, so it doesn’t bring any radical changes. The new phone is all about delivering the same quality that its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, had and improving where it didn’t do well, such as dust resistance, battery life, and more.

However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is set to launch in 2024, so it also comes with some hardware upgrades, including 5G connectivity and more. It also has the same design as the Galaxy Flip 5, and there are virtually no differences between them from the outside. Let’s start with a detailed review of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and see if this smartphone is worth buying.

Design and exhibition

The design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 remains the same as its predecessor. So, you’ll find the same flat design with an aluminum and glass build. However, a lot of changes have been made to the inside, which prevents dust from entering the phone through the folding hinge mechanism. Hence, the new phone features IP48 water and dust resistance instead of just IPX8 water resistance.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes in new colours – Yellow, Silver Shadow, Mint, Blue, Black, White, and Peach. Apart from that, there are no other changes in the design. As for the display, you get a 6.7-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience. The display also has support for 1 billion colours and HDR10+. However, the display has become a lot brighter and can reach 2,600 nits in direct sunlight.

When the phone is folded, you’ll also find a cover display with a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED panel, allowing you to do a lot of things without unfolding the phone. This cover display can also get a lot brighter, and it’s protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Overall, Samsung has created a fantastic foldable experience that feels natural in the hand.

Memory and internal

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 5G processor, which can reach clock speeds of up to 1×3.39 GHz. It can process large amounts of data and comfortably run anything you throw at it, including high-fidelity games.

The Galaxy Flip 6 has the Adreno 750 GPU, which can run graphically demanding games like Genshin Impact and Black Desert Mobile without any issues. It can also run CODm, PUBG, and more without any issues. The phone comes with Android 14 out of the box with a OneUI 6.1.1 user interface designed to deliver the best foldable experience.

It also has support for 5G connectivity for gigabit download speeds and lower latency in multiplayer games. The new foldable phone also comes with 12GB of RAM, which is an upgrade from the 8GB of RAM on the Flip 5. The phone also has up to 256GB/512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a new 50MP dual rear camera system, which is an improvement over the previous 12MP camera system. The main rear camera consists of a 50MP sensor, which is optimized to capture more light. It is now capable of taking even better photos with a high dynamic range, greater levels of detail, and saturated colors.

However, the secondary ultra-wide camera remains the same, which isn’t bad and provides decent quality with a wide 123˚ field of view. There’s a dedicated Night Mode as well, which manages to capture some amazing images, even in the darkest of surroundings. For selfies, you get a 10MP selfie camera, which takes some decent photos with natural skin tones. Both the rear camera and the selfie camera are capable of recording videos at 4K at 60 FPS. The main rear camera also has OIS for stable video footage.

Battery and others

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery, which is larger than its predecessor. Due to the large battery capacity and the efficient components inside, the new phone can offer a full day’s battery life and then some. However, if you play a lot, the battery will drain faster.

However, the Galaxy Flip 6 does support 25W wired fast charging, which can juice up the phone to 50% in just 30 minutes. There’s also 15W wireless fast charging, which is certainly a slick way to charge. Apart from that, the phone has support for tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C jack for charging. As for the price, the phone starts at $1,099 (Rs 109,999 in India) approximately.

It improves the display, speed, memory, camera, and battery, while incorporating new capabilities such as an official IP rating for dust protection and a better hinge mechanism. Both the main and cover displays are now better and brighter than the previous model.

The chipset is faster and games run better on it. The phone also has more memory now, which means better Galaxy AI performance. The main camera also received a decent performance boost and captures more details than ever before, whether it’s day or night. Even the battery received a decent upgrade.

Basically, Samsung’s new foldable phone has received a lot of small but necessary improvements. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is much cheaper now and seems like a better alternative than the new Flip 6.
