Vivo G2 smartphone review: Vivo announced the Vivo G2 in January 2024 in China and then went on sale at the end of that month. Going by Vivo’s records, the Vivo G2 should be available worldwide, including India, but the company is yet to announce any global launch plans. Vivo designed the smartphone to have modern features, including 5G, but for users on a budget.

In terms of design, the smartphone follows a similar design language as other Vivo smartphones. Therefore, the design is sure to impress anyone who sees this smartphone for the first time. The main attraction of the Vivo G2 smartphone is the chipset and battery. Let’s start with a detailed review of the Vivo G2 smartphone and see if it is worth buying.

Reflexes

  1. The Vivo G2 has a 6.56-inch IPS display with 90Hz high refresh rate support.
  2. The Vivo G2 has the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G chipset that is capable of clock speeds of up to 2×2.2 GHz.

  4. The smartphone has a 13MP rear camera with a 5MP selfie camera.
  5. The smartphone is powered by a 5000 mAh battery with support for 15W wired fast charger.

Design and display

The design of the Vivo G2 is quite similar to other Vivo smartphones. It has a similar flat design with sharp edges on the sides that allow for a better grip on the smartphone. Therefore, the chances of the smartphone slipping out of your palm are quite slim. Overall, it looks pretty stylish, but it’s a shame it’s not available in more colors than black.

The back is quite simple with just the camera island and logo. While on the front, you will get the 6.56-inch IPS display with a waterdrop notch. This HD+ display panel supports a high refresh rate of 90Hz. The lack of an FHD+ panel may not sit well with everyone, but at least it has accurate colors. The display also gets very bright with a brightness of 840 nits in direct sunlight, so using the smartphone outdoors won’t be a problem.

Memory and internal

The Vivo G2 comes equipped with the 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G chipset. The chipset can reach clock speeds of up to 2×2.2 GHz, which is quite impressive considering the price of the smartphone. With this level of performance, running everyday games like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Messenger and more won’t be a problem.

These applications will run without problems. The same can be said for games. This chipset has the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU that can run high-end games like PUBG mobile, CODm, and Summoners War at relatively smooth frame rates. The smartphone also comes with 5G connectivity to ensure you the best experience and lowest latency while gaming.

The Vivo G2 runs on the Android 13 operating system with the feature-rich OriginOS 3 UI. The smartphone can also be purchased with up to 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Camera

The Vivo G2 comes with a 13MP rear camera, which is capable of capturing photos with decent levels of detail and high dynamic range. The color range is also quite good and does not have an over-processed look. For taking photos at night, there is a night mode within the camera app that can increase the camera’s ability to capture levels of detail at night.

There is also an anti-strobe sensor that reduces strobe lines that appear on the camera when taking pictures on a computer or TV. On the front of the Vivo G2, there is a 5MP selfie camera. This camera can take decent selfies with good white balance and natural looking skin tone. As for video recording, the Vivo G2 is capable of recording videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p@30FPS from the rear camera.

Battery and others

The Vivo G2 has a high-capacity 5000 mAh battery that is capable of providing incredible battery life. It can easily last 2 days or more, but with lighter use including some camera, social media, YouTube, etc. But with gaming, the battery won’t last the same. It will drain faster and you’ll be lucky if it lasts a full day.

But low battery notifications shouldn’t worry you, as the smartphone supports 15W fast wired charging. While this charger isn’t as fast as other higher-priced smartphones, it’s still faster than the standard iPhone charger. 10 W. It can fully charge the battery in about 2 and a half hours. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase for $145 (Rs 11,999 in India) approximately.

Conclusion

The Vivo G2 smartphone comes with a unique set of features and capabilities that make it stand out among other smartphones in the same price range. The smartphone’s screen is bright and color accurate. The chipset is fast enough to run apps and games smoothly and provide a solid user experience. You also get decent battery performance.

On top of that, you get 5G connectivity and all this makes it an amazing budget smartphone. But the price of the smartphone is not as cheap as it seems, especially considering other smartphones with similar features and capabilities. For example, the Realme V50s offers 5g, a better camera setup and has the latest Android, although it asks for an almost similar price. So, both smartphones have advantages and disadvantages. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
