Xiaomi Redmi 13 smartphone review
Xiaomi Redmi 13 Smartphone Review: Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi Redmi 13 in June 2024 and then it went on sale the same month. The smartphone is being rolled out globally in a phased manner, so it might not arrive in your country right away, but it should do so in the coming days. The smartphone follows the design language of the recently launched Poco F6, which is a good thing.
However, the Redmi 13 does not have 5G connectivity, which is a surprise for a smartphone that is set to launch in 2024. Xiaomi hopes that its other features will be enough to make up for the lack of 5G. So, let’s get started with a detailed review of the Xiaomi Redmi 13 smartphone and see if it is worth buying.

Design and exhibition
Xiaomi wants to impress everyone who sets their eyes on the Xiaomi Redmi 13, so it stands to reason that the company wants a good design, and this smartphone delivers on that. It has a flat design with sharp edges on the sides that allow for a better grip, so the chances of the smartphone slipping out of your palm are pretty slim. This phone is also protected against dust and water splashes with the IP53 rating.
The colors of the smartphone are fantastic. It is available in Midnight Black, Sandy Gold, Ocean Blue, and Pink. The Ocean Blue, in particular, has a wave pattern on the back that looks impressive. While other colors are also great, only the Ocean Blue has that pattern. It is made entirely of plastic, but it is well-built and does not creak or bend in any way. The build is solid and will last a long time.
At the front, you get the 6.79-inch IPS display with support for a high refresh rate of 90Hz for a smooth user experience. This is an HD+ display panel and not an FHD+, so some users might not like it. Considering the price of the phone, Xiaomi should have implemented an FHD+ panel, but at least, the display is color-accurate. The panel also gets quite bright at 550 nits under direct sunlight, so using the smartphone outdoors won’t be a problem. The display is protected with Corning’s Gorilla Glass.
Memory and internal
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 comes equipped with the MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra 4G chipset. The chipset can reach clock speeds of up to 2×2.0GHz, which is nothing impressive, considering the price of the smartphone. Don’t get us wrong, it’s an acceptable chipset for an extremely budget phone, but this phone isn’t that cheap. Even phones with lower price tags have better chipsets than this one.
However, running everyday games like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Messenger, and more won’t be a problem. Even general gaming will run just fine. This chipset has the Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, so games like PUBG Mobile, CODm, and Summoners War run at relatively smooth frame rates. But high-end games like Genshin Impact won’t run well. It’s not a gaming phone, and the chipset isn’t made for serious gaming.
The smartphone also lacks 5G connectivity, so you won’t get low latency anyway. On top of that, the smartphone is available for purchase with up to 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. The Xiaomi Redmi 13 runs on Android 14 with HyperOS UI that is feature-rich. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and that’s a really good thing, especially for audiophiles.
Camera
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 comes with a 108MP dual rear camera system. The primary camera is capable of capturing images with decent levels of detail, high dynamic range, and good enough color tone. The color range could have been a bit better, but at least the images don’t look over-processed. The secondary camera is completely useless and won’t help you in any situation.
On the front of the Xiaomi Redmi 13, there is a 13MP selfie camera, which takes some decent selfies with a good amount of fine details, white balance, and a natural-looking skin tone. As for video recording, the Xiaomi Redmi 13 is capable of recording videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 FPS from both the rear camera and the selfie camera, but there is no video stabilization of any kind.
Battery and others
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 has a high-capacity 5030mAh battery that is capable of providing excellent battery life. The phones can easily last for 2 days or more with light usage that includes some camera work, social media, YouTube, etc. But if you are a gamer, the battery will drain faster and you will be lucky if it lasts a full day.
However, the smartphone supports 33W wired fast charging, which can fully charge the battery in around 2 hours. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase at $191 (Rs 15,999 in India) approximately.

Conclusion
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 is a decent smartphone. It has the right set of features and capabilities to make it stand out among other smartphones. The display of the smartphone is bright, has accurate colors, and a decent refresh rate, which can provide a solid user experience. You also get a decent chipset, which gets the job done.
The camera and battery performance are also pretty good, but the price is one point where the smartphone falls short. This phone could have been really good and the specs are also right, but its higher price puts it at the level of phones with much better specs. Against these phones, the Redmi 13 seems like a poor choice. Even Xiaomi’s previous model, the Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G, is much better than this one and costs a bit less too. That phone has a better display, a faster chipset, and even 5G connectivity, so we would recommend that phone instead. However, the final decision is up to you, so it’s better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
